A Poem for Di by her Loving Cousin Carol 30th March 2019

A Poem for Di by her Loving Cousin Carol The words wouldn’t come, the memories filled My mind with emotions coming thick coming fast Making commotions of thoughts that at last Brought peace and my mind was suddenly stilled Pictures appeared of flowers abounding, Planted in Autumn to bloom in the Spring. Then pots of geraniums, garden surrounded With flowers festooned to make our hearts sing. And thinking of singing she knew every word Of songs that were sung in grandparents time. At Christmas we’d laugh so often we heard The song that was ended in ridiculous mime. Valentines Day we had to prepare well “The birds wedding day, they’re choosing their mate Get nest boxes cleaned out” she'd phone up to tell “They need to rear young, you mustn’t be late” Then Summer-time came and car hood away now Runs to the village with girls from the Grange Giving them pleasure as she only knew how Making the shopping such fun for a change She loved entertaining to give others pleasure To show us sights she’d found dear to her heart She shared so that friends could also have treasures To keep when the time came for all to depart We didn’t imagine she’d just up and leave us She waited so we could have time for goodbyes Knowing she’d be sure we knew she would trust We’d let go without too many sorrows or sighs But NOW, can’t you feel her presence around you Still wriggling that place in the depths of your heart Saying “Just listen to me I’ll always surround you So enjoy what you’ve got, you silly old fart” With my love always.
